Commodities such as rubber, timber, cocoa, and palm oil can have a positive impact, but only if sourced and managed sustainably. Action is needed to ensure that the commodity industry has an equitable, sustainable future. And this is where Earthqualizer comes in.

We are a non-profit organization with international experience, integrating the interests of local communities and dedicated to the sustainable management of natural resources.

Earthqualizer traces its roots back to 2006, and a chance meeting between experts investigating oil palm in West Kalimantan (Indonesian Borneo). They quickly discovered a shared interest in using satellite imagery to combat environmental destruction. Soon after, they set up a team to hold international trade and investment accountable, by presenting brands and banks with evidence of their impact on the ground. With a combination of the knowledge of local actors and international perspective, their collaboration helped to stop deforestation and land grabs. This dynamic was also influenced by an act of criminalization by the authorities against their work in the field.

The time had come to establish a domestic branch for environmental and social justice in Indonesia. And so Earthqualizer was born.

  • We empower people through advocacy and legal support, while also helping companies transform their supply chains and practices for the benefit of people and nature.

  • We support governments to create policy, communities to make their voices heard, and companies to implement sustainability commitments. All actions are ultimately geared towards the protection of forests and community rights.

  • We transform agricultural industries to achieve environmental protection and socio-economic justice.

  • We make it possible to reimagine a world where commodities are grown equitably and sustainably. Gathered and analyzed by our experienced local team, our data helps to drive decisions that can result in more responsible management practices.

Social, Economic and Environmental Justice

We envision a future in which companies, communities, and governments collaborate to become better integrated with landscapes. This future depends on finding a financial model that’s rooted in social justice, an agricultural system that’s sustainable, and an ecosystem of interests that works together.

Our vision for the future

Who we work with

Public (government, donors, NGOs, and communities)

Our goal is to nurture livelihoods that rely on and thrive in diverse landscapes. To achieve this natural synergy, we support public sector organizations with in-depth analysis in the following areas:

  • Identification of potential natural resources

  • Exploration of funding opportunities

  • Capacity building

  • Support for social forestry schemes

  • Development of sustainable business models

  • Integration of government policies into initiatives at the site level

Corporates (brands, traders, growers, and bankers)

Earthqualizer is taking a root-and-branch approach to commodity supply chains. An essential branch of this collaborative network reaches into corporates, where Earthqualizer is active in the following areas:

  • Implementing sustainable business practices

  • Working at all levels to improve practices and raise standards

  • Ensuring that natural resources are managed sustainably

  • Protecting biodiversity

  • Making sure local people are included

The Earthqualizer DREAM

Earthqualizer has a DREAM – a new vision for commodities production, in which business includes and empowers local people to participate in the sustainable management of natural resources, and government can be the catalyst for change:

  • Deliver equitable results based on socio-economic justice

  • Restore degraded areas

  • Encourage co-management of natural resources with other stakeholders

  • Achieve wider inclusion and diversity

  • Mitigate the negative impacts of business operations
